The word organic is a legally protected term. Products are organic only when they are also organically grown and certified. In organic farming, greater account is taken of environmental effects and animal welfare during sowing, growing and processing. For example, chemical pesticides, synthetic fragrances, colourings and flavourings, non-natural preservatives, genetically modified organisms and artificial fertilisers are not permitted. So the products are pure and natural. Which makes them healthy and delicious!

My nationality
Of course, I AM Organic® prefers to source its organic bananas as close to home as possible. Because good-quality bananas cannot be grown year-round in Europe, we source them from the Dominican Republic. The climate there is ideal for bananas and the shipping route to the Netherlands is short and direct. In the Netherlands, we take the time to ripen the bananas very slowly, for an even more delicious flavour. An I AM Organic banana from the Dominican Republic will be in your shop four weeks after it was harvested. Enjoy!
My farmer
I grew up on a plantation belonging to Jetta van den Berg, a lady of Dutch origin, who champions organic values and social impact. Her continuous improvement, investment and, above all, hard work have put her at the forefront of organic banana production in the Dominican Republic. One of her plantations, Quinta Pasadena, is a modern plantation of about 165 hectares, where organic production has been the order of the day since its establishment. It has been set up on a grand scale, with state-of-the-art water management, solar panels and a large nature reserve next to the plantation.
My journey
I AM Organic® bananas are packed in boxes at the plantation and then transported by lorry in a refrigerated container to Santo Domingo (south) or Manzanillo (north). From there, they sail to Rotterdam or Vlissingen in about ten days. On arrival in the Netherlands, the bananas go into storage in ripening rooms until they can be delivered to the shops at exactly the right stage of ripeness.
My outfit
Less packaging, more communication. I am not packaged because it is not necessary for quality, flavour, shelf life and therefore sustainability. I only wear a biodegradable sticker made of FSC paper, with a QR code. That QR code tells you all about me. What do you want to know? Scan me!
My impact on earth
I AM Organic® focuses on people and planet. The product chain is made as sustainable as possible in order to limit the emission of greenhouse gases. Yet my production and distribution still leave a carbon footprint. I AM Organic offsets this footprint and invests the money in Fairtrade certified climate projects, from FairClimateFund. This makes me carbon neutral.
